There are some exciting fixtures as the UEFA Champions League Quarter-finals draw was held today at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
Some unexpected teams qualified from the round 16 stage in what turned out to be an unpredictable as well as entertaining round 16 stage, filled with a lot of comebacks.
Dutch club Ajax came from a 2:1 home deficit to beat Champions Real Madrid 4:1 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Porto reversed Roma’s first leg advantage to qualify after extra time. Juventus reversed Athletico Madrid’s 2:0 advantage, beating them 3:0 at home to go through.
English side, Manchester United cancelled Paris Saint Germain’s 2:0 first-leg lead as they beat the French side 3:1 in France to qualify on away goals rule. Jurgen Klopp’s side, Liverpool surprised Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena beating them 3:1 away after a goalless first leg fixture at Liverpool’s home ground, Anfield.
In the other fixtures, Tottenham won Bundesliga side, Dortmund home and away to qualify. Premier League leaders, Manchester City beat Schalke 04 home and away as La Liga leaders, FC Barcelona beat French side Lyon 5:1 at the Camp Nou to qualify to the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, in the draw held today, Ajax will be facing Italian giants, Juventus as Tottenham meets Premier league leaders Manchester City in an all premier league fixture.
Last year’s runner-up, Liverpool was drawn with Portuguese side, FC Porto as fellow Premier League Club, Manchester United gets a date with La Liga Leaders, FC Barcelona.
The Quater finals will start on the 9th of April, 2019 as the remaining eight clubs fight for a place in the final showdown scheduled to be held at Athletico Madrid’s new home, the Wanda Metropolitano.
