The Lagos faction of the Cultural Group of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria, Ohaneze Ndigbo has endorsed the All Progressives Congress’ candidate for Lagos State Guber election, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The group made disclosed this agreement through their Leader, Mr. Solomon Ogbonna at their town hall meeting in Lagos on Sunday.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ogbonna said that the group has concluded plans to vote for Sanwo-Olu in Saturday’s election.
Mr. Ogbonna disclosed that the Ohaneze group will mobilize two million Igbos to vote for Sanwo-Olu come Saturday if he promises to meet their demands.
He demanded that the APC candidate should appoint six of their members as Commissioners if he wins on Saturday.
The Ohaneze Leader pointed out that endorsing Sanwo-Olu is the best thing that can happen to Igbos in Lagos State.
He was quoted saying’
“we are endorsing him because this is the man that will give us what we have been craving for in Lagos.
“This is the best that can happen to the Ndigbos in Lagos, so come out and vote for him. Hold me responsible for this because I know him and I have seen what he can do.”
Mr. Ogbonna recalled that Sanwo-Olu came to the rescue of Igbos in Lagos when they were attacked after the presidential elections. He stated the APC candidates actions as a show of love for the Igbos.
“Sanwo-Olu’s actions showed his love for the Ndigbo to live peacefully in Lagos.” He said
Also speaking at the meeting, the Former President of the group, Mr. Oliver Akubueze stated that the Igbos did not vote for APC in the presidential election because they did not like the presidential choice of the party. He reassured Sanwo-Olu of their love for him and promised him of their full support on Saturday.
“What played out during the last election will not happen next Saturday because we love Sanwo-Olu. But during the last election, the choice of the party did not meet our expectations and that is why we did that.” He said
The Secretary of the group, Mr Everest Nweke cleared that endorsing Sanwo-Olu does not mean that the group has started politicking but they are only concerned with how the state is governed.
