The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC has insisted that it would not present a certificate of return to the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha who ran for the Imo West senatorial seat with the All Progressive Congress Party.
Recall that Governor Rochas Okorocha won the Imo West senatorial race in a controversial election held on the 23rd of February.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC’s commissioner for Information and Voter Education, Mr. Festus Okoye while speaking to ChannelsTv on Monday, the Independent National Electoral Commission will not issue a certificate of return to Governor Okorocha.
He disclosed that INEC took the decision because the returning officer for the Imo west senatorial district election informed the commission that he declared Governor Okorocha winner under duress.
Although Governor Okorocha has challenged that he won the election fairly, INEC did not shortlist his name among the senators-elect who were given certificates of return last week in Abuja, and the Electoral Commission still insists that he will not be issued the certificate despite his numerous protests.
