Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez have both been sidelined for some time with injuries, amounting to speculations on whether they will play in FC Barcelona’s derby meeting with city rivals, Espanyol in La Liga on Saturday.
However, according to recent reports, Messi has overcome a groin injury which he picked up during the International break in Argentina’s match against Venezuela, while Suarez has recovered from a sprained ankle and both players will be fit to face Espanyol tomorrow.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of the Espanyol fixture, FC Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde confirmed that both Messi and Suarez are included in the 18 man squad for the fixture.
When asked if Messi is fit the manger replied;
“We think he is, but, hey, Leo has been carrying this problem for some time and we have been working to allow him to recover.”
“It flared up with his national team. He’s had a rest and he is better. We’ll be careful with Messi because of the fundamental importance of the matches.”
About Luis Suarez, Valverde said that the Uruguayan’s rest during the international break did him good and he is fit to play tomorrow.
Meanwhile, FC Barcelona will be hosting Espanyol in La Liga tomorrow at Camp Nou by 4:15 pm before travelling to meet Villareal on Tuesday.
