Premier League champions, Manchester City trashed Bundesliga outfit, Schalke04 7:0 last night at the Etihad Stadium, to reach the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Manchester City snatched two late goals in the first leg of their round 16 fixture at Schalke’s home, Veltins Arena to win the match 3:2 before beating them with seven goals to nil last night to record a massive 10:2 winning aggregate.
Sergio Aguero gave the citizens the lead from the spot in the 35th minute before scoring again in the 38th minute. Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Bernado Silva, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus scored a goal each to take the tally to seven goals.
Speaking after the win last night, City Boss, Pep Guardiola praised his side’s seriousness even after taking the lead in the match. He commended the player’s speed and dynamism throughout the game.
“After the first goal, we played at a good level. We were serious and we did the job,” Guardiola said.
“In the last 15 minutes of the first half and in the second half we were incredible. We were playing quick, dynamic in the transitions and we scored goals.”
City’s win against Schalke is currently the joint-biggest ever Champions League knockout stage win.
