The Imo State division of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the suspension of Imo incumbent governor and Imo west APC senatorial candidate, Owelle Rochas Okorocha by the party’s National Working Committee.
While talking at a press conference in Imo capital Owerri, the state’s APC Chairman Daniel Nwafor stated that the suspension was unlawful and therefore null and void.
Recall that the APC National Working Committee at a meeting chaired by the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole announced the suspension of governor Okorocha along with Governor Amosun of Osun state and two other members.
Reacting to this, Imo APC Chairman Nwafor rejected the suspension today. He accused the National Chairman Oshiomole of being unconstitutional in his leadership. He said that since Oshiomole took on the leadership of APC, he has not been regarding the party’s constitution. He cited that the former Edo state governor has outlived his usefulness in the party.
Mr. Nwafor described Oshiomole as a man who doesn’t have respect for the rule of law. He cited that governor Okorocha’s suspension did not follow due process.
He cited that the suspension of members in the party must start from ward level and not the National Working Committee as permitted in the party’s constitution.
“I am here with the APC chairman from Ogboko ward where the governor hails from. There was no letter from the NWC to him to query the governor for any offence. The truth is that Oshiomhole is a man who has no respect for rule of law. He has a penchant for disobeying valid court judgments and orders. Mr. Nwafor said.
Mr. Nwafor called for Oshiomole’s resignation and re-confirmed governor Rochas as the APC leader in Imo State.
“We demand his immediate resignation from APC. Adams Oshiomhole has outlived his usefulness in APC. As a party, we will not honour that purported suspension. It is null and void and of no effect. Governor Rochas Okorocha remains the leader of APC in Imo state.” He said.
Finally, Mr. Nwafor stated that APC has no governorship candidate in Imo state as he cited that the alleged governorship candidate, Senator Hope Uzodimma is not recognized by the party.
He said that Senator Hope is not a registered member of the party in his ward in Oru East L.G.A in Imo state.
