Premier League club, Fulham FC has announced that they have parted ways with Manager Claudio Ranieri.
The club made this announcement on Thursday after their premier league loss to Southampton on Wednesday night. The loss keeps them 19th on the Premier league table and deeply in the relegation zone with just ten matches remaining for the season.
Claudio Ranieri was appointed last November to replace the former manager, Slavisa Jokanovic. Since his appointment, the 69-year old Italian and former Leicester City manager has only won 3 matches in 16 games leaving the newly promoted club in great fear of relegation.
Speaking about the development on Thursday, Fulham club chairman, Shahid Khan stated that the decision to sack the Italian was in the best interest of everyone. He cited that the former Premier League winning manager’s tenure at the club did not produce the outcome he anticipated. He regarded Ranieri as a complete gentleman and commended his behaviour during the sack talks.
“Following our discussion this afternoon, Claudio Ranieri agreed to my decision that a change was in the best interest of everyone,” Khan said.
“Claudio’s tenure at Fulham didn’t produce the outcome we anticipated and needed when I appointed him as manager in November, but be assured he is not solely to blame for the position we are in today.”
Reacting to the news of his sack, Ranieri said that he was disappointed that he could not improve on and maintain the good start he had when he was appointed manager at the club.
“I am obviously disappointed with the recent results and that we could not build on the good start we made following my appointment,” Ranieri said.
Meanwhile, the Club Chairman has announced that former player and Ranieri’s Assistant, Scott Parker will take charge as caretaker manager for the meantime.
“Scott’s immediate assignment is merely to help us stabilise, grow and rediscover ourselves as a football club,” Khan said.
“If Scott can answer that challenge, and our players respond to the opportunity, perhaps victories will follow in the months ahead.”
Claudio Ranieri is the second coach to be sacked by Fulham this season and the sixth to be sacked in the Premier League after Claude Puel at Leicester — Jokanovic at Fulham, Mark Hughes (Southampton), Jose Mourinho (Manchester United) and David Wagner (Huddersfield).
