Former Paris St Germain striker Cavani, signed on deadline day, has been forced to undergo a two-week isolation period following his arrival in the UK from Paris.

The 33-year-old striker will, however, be available to face his old club PSG in the Champions League next Tuesday, when United travel to Paris.

Ole Gunner Solskjaer have confirmed new signing Edinson Cavani will not be available for Saturday's trip to Newcastle.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been forced into a selection rethink up front with the enforced absence of Cavani and Anthony Martial, who will begin a three-match ban following his straight red card in the 6-1 defeat at home to Tottenham.

United confirmed Cavani’s absence on their website and said: “Cavani is being forced to self-isolate due to the COVID-19 guidelines, following his arrival into the country from France, which means he is unable to make his debut at St James’ Park.

“The Uruguay international will be free to play against his former club Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, though, if deemed fit and ready for action.
