The Management of Federal Polytechnic Auchi, in Edo state has sanctioned about 27 staff members for gross misconducts pertaining to violations of the Institution’s ethical regulations.
This development was made public by the Rector of the Institution, Dr. Momodu Sanusi Jimah at the 25th convocation ceremony of the School.
According to Dr. Jimah, the staff members were sanctioned for such unethical practices as requesting money or sex for marks from students.
Dr. Jimah stated that 11 of the culprits were dismissed, 6 had their appointments terminated, while the remaining 10 were demoted.
He bemoaned the fact that such members of staff have taken their unethical conducts as a way of life.
The Rector went ahead to announce that about 250 additional staff were recruited in place of the sanctioned ones, to help strengthen the institution’s staffing capacity for effective and efficient delivery of its academic and supportive services.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Olarewaju Oloyo, represented by Prince Felix Oba Okojie, stated that unethical conduct of some staff would no longer be tolerated in the institution.
He called on the Federal Government to consider allocation of special grant to the institution to enable it replace all instructional materials and equipment.
Meanwhile, a total of 28,325 graduands of the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic sessions were presented with the award of Post Higher Graduate Diploma, Higher National Diploma and National Diploma at the convocation event.
