Arsenal FC Manager, Unai Emery believes that the Gunners can still win league rivals, Manchester United in their premier league clash on Sunday even after loosing away to French outfit, Stade Rennes in the Europa League last night.
Arsenal had an unfortunate night in France yesterday after their Greek defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos was sent off in the 41st minute following Alex Iwobi’s 3rd minute lead for the Gunners.
Alex Iwobi gave Arsenal the lead in the third minute before Sokratis was sent off. However, with Arsenal going down to ten men, Stade Rennes took dominance in the game scoring two goals from Benjamin Bourigeaud and Ismaila Sarr, with an own goal from Nacho Monreal to win the fixture 3:1.
Speaking about the game, Emery said that the Gunners had a good game in the first forty minutes before Sokratis was sent off. He showed confidence about the return fixture as he believes the Gunners can turn things around with their home supporters and atmosphere
“The first 40 minutes I think we controlled it, we scored, and we didn’t concede many chances to them.
“We need to change our performance and I have confidence that we can with our players and with our supporters helping us to give us a big atmosphere.” He said.
However, on the Man. U fixture, the Gunners boss believes that with fresh players and hard work from the club can defeat United on Sunday.
“We are finding fresh players and different energy for each match, and for Sunday I think it’s going to be the same,”
“Every player worked a lot and we are going to look forward to the next match, but I know and I am positive for Sunday, that with fresh players with energy, with quality, that we have the possibility to put in a big performance against Manchester United and win against them.” Emery said.
On the other hand, Manchester United put in a scintillating performance in France on Wednesday. The Red Devils overturned a 2:0 first-leg deficit, winning Paris Saint-Germain 3:1 to proceed to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals on away goals.
Speaking about United’s win, Emery said:
“They are in a very good moment but we are together in the table and we played against them one month ago in the FA Cup — we lost 3-1 but I remember we did very good things, we had chances,”
“We know Sunday is a tough match, an amazing match for everybody, we will be at home with our supporters, and we need a very big performance from each player,” Emery said.
Arsenal will be given a boost in their attack with the return of French Forward, Alexandre Lacazzette who has been on suspension.
Arsenal will host Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday by 5:30 pm.
