Portuguese forward and five-time Balon d’Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo delivered a scintillating performance against Atletico Madrid last night to save Juventus from crashing out of the Uefa Champions League.
Going into the second leg of their Champions League round 16 tie, Juventus were trailing with a 2 goals deficit, needing a miracle to qualify for the quarterfinals.
Cristiano Ronaldo headed home in the 27th minute after meeting Federico Bernardeschi’s cross. The Portuguese went on to head in another goal in the 48th minute, just after the break with the cross coming from Joao Cancelo before converting from the spot in the 86th minute to give The Old Ladies the three goals they need to qualify.
It was indeed a night to remember for the Portuguese who was signed from Real Madrid in the summer, and the Juventus supporter. with the three goals, Ronaldo took his total goal tally in the champions league to three in the current season and 124 in his career.
Meanwhile, Juventus signed the five-time Ballon d’Or winner for a fee of 100 million euros ($117 million) last summer in a contract which will see him earn a whopping 31 million euros annual salary. The Old Ladies signed Ronaldo to help them secure a third champions league victory since they won their last in 1996.
